Sun – the source of energy
The solar energy is no doubt the primary source of energy for our earth and the other planets. It is the power house that gets the world going. It is again the same source through which the earth has become a planet for us and other living objects to survive. Thus solar energy is a kind of energy that has been the blessing for all of us since ages. There are so many advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.
Advantages and Disadvantages Of Solar Energy
Advantages Of Solar Energy
This is one source of energy that the world gets in plenty. This energy will remain with us forever. Thus we don’t have to think about the source of energy. Solar energy is a renewable energy source.
2. Development of technology
With the advancement of technology, there has been a radical change in the conservation and distribution of solar energy. In earlier days we always used to depend on thermal energy, hydro power and wind energy. Nowadays with the invention of solar panels and with the scientific development of conservation of solar energy this energy has become one of the popular sources.
3. Minimal maintenance cost
After the installation of the solar panels there is no such heavy recurring cost. Other than the cost of cleaning the device and the change of inverters after an average of half a decade there is no such maintenance cost. This factor makes the solar energy all the more affordable for people of far flung areas.
Disadvantages Of Solar Energy
1. Initial cost
The initial cost of installing the solar panel system is quite huge. Thus the installation of panels cannot be afforded by people who come from relatively weaker section of the society. The inverters, panels, batteries and wiring cumulatively cost an amount which might not be affordable for all.
2. Space for installation
The amount of solar power required is directly proportional to the amount of space required. It is so because if one has to get more amount of energy then one has to install more number of solar panels thereby enabling more amount of solar panel exposed to direct sunlight.
3. Storage cost
Solar energy is quite costly. It is so because the storage cost of energy is high. The batteries used for storing of solar energy are expensive. In many areas people use the solar power as their source of energy only during the day and at night they manage from some alternative source of energy.
4. Weather dependent
The solar panels works best only when there is proper sunlight. On cloudy and rainy days the efficiency of the panels gets reduced considerably. Although the batteries can store energy; after a few consecutive days of rainfall and cloud the effectiveness of panels drops considerably.
Thus, solar energy being one of the best renewable sources of energy has its own pros and cons that we discussed. It is anyway a booming source and a lot of countries are gradually taking initiatives in installing solar panels and ensuring that none of the corners of the country remains under darkness anymore. With the advent of technology the solar power storage and use has seen a lot of development since its inception. It is thereby regarded as a primary source of energy having a lot of advantages and disadvantages of solar energy.
